The hamlet  of  Port-au-Persil

The well kept secret
      of a peaceful hamlet
at the bottom of the cove
Text written by the
"Association
des plus beaux villages du Québec"

Port-au-Persil is only for those who search for it. A tiny hamlet delicately poised at the bottom of a small bay bordering the St-Lawrence river, in the region of Charlevoix and hidden away from the main road (road 138), it was founded in the 19th century by a Scotsman, Neil McLaren. In 1893, his son built the small white chapel that we find near the boulders, bordering the river.

A narrow road unfolds down the cape as you discover slowly the tiny hamlet. Here, there is no traditional village, but minuscule houses that seem to hang from the mountains on either side of the dock.

It is as if a fragile stream, overcome by heavy rain, simply jumped into the falls cascade only to find it's solace in this peaceful inlet, which they call here the sea.

What's really different with Port-au-Persil is it's calming charm and gentle soul, so far removed from the turbulence of the world.

Please do not disturb...
