Port-au-Persil is only for those who search for it. A tiny hamlet delicately poised at the bottom of a small bay bordering the St-Lawrence river, in the region of Charlevoix and hidden away from the main road (road 138), it was founded in the 19th century by a Scotsman, Neil McLaren. In 1893, his son built the small white chapel that we find near the boulders, bordering the river.
A narrow road unfolds down the cape as you discover slowly the tiny hamlet.
Here, there is no traditional village, but minuscule houses that
seem to hang from the mountains on either side of the dock.
It is as if a fragile stream, overcome by heavy rain, simply jumped into the falls cascade only to find it's solace in this peaceful inlet, which they call here the sea. What's really different with Port-au-Persil is it's calming charm and gentle soul, so far removed from the turbulence of the world. Please do not disturb... The magic of Port-au-Persil ![]() To discover all the magic of Port-au-Persil, stop at L'Oasis du Port, in the heart of the hamlet of Port-au-Persil. Visit our small Art Gallery and be charmed by this house bordering the Saint-Lawrence river. Also, make a stop at L'Auberge Petite Madeleine to visit the rooms, the dining room and the general store: A few more steps and live the unique experience offered by the school and gallery-boutique of La poterie de Port-au-Persil. |
